Whole Life Worship: Embracing your God - Given Purpose and Overcoming Excuses
You Are God's Masterpiece: Embracing Your Gifts and Living Without Excuses
As I reflect on this past Sunday’s message, I am continually reminded of a profound truth: **you are God's masterpiece**. It’s easy to forget that, especially when life’s challenges and our own doubts creep in. But the Bible clearly states in Ephesians 2:10 that we are created anew in Christ Jesus to do the good things God planned for us long ago ([33:31]). That means each of us has a purpose, a unique set of gifts, and a calling that only we can fulfill.
You Are Created on Purpose for a Purpose
Sometimes, I meet people who feel like they’ve messed up too much or that their life doesn’t matter. But I want to remind you—nothing about you is an accident. God, the Creator of the universe, designed you intentionally. When Paul calls us His masterpiece, he’s emphasizing that God created us with a specific purpose in mind. And if you’ve committed your life to Jesus, you’ve been recreated—given a fresh start and a new hope ([48:34]).
Your Gifts Are Not Accidents
God has given each of us spiritual gifts—abilities that are meant to be used for His glory and the good of others. Some of us have taken spiritual gifts assessments before, and I encourage you to do so again if you haven’t recently. You might be surprised to discover that the gifts you already use daily are exactly what God intended for you. Whether you’re detailed and organized, a natural teacher, a compassionate encourager, or a generous giver, your gifts matter ([35:41]). They are part of your design as His masterpiece.
Don’t Make Excuses—Make a Difference
One of the biggest obstacles to living out our purpose is the excuses we make. We often tell ourselves, “I can’t do that,” or “I’m too busy,” or “I’m not good enough.” But the truth is, most excuses are rooted in fear—fear of failure, embarrassment, or inadequacy. The Bible reminds us 366 times—“Fear not,” because God is with us ([45:15]).
We have a choice: will we spend our lives making excuses, or will we step into the plans God has for us? I challenge you to examine your “becauses.” Write them down. Ask yourself, “Where did that come from? Is it really true?” Often, what we think are reasons are just excuses hiding behind fear or laziness.
The Power to Change Is Within You
Romans 8:11 tells us that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us ([52:20]). That means we are not powerless. We can be set free from the lies we tell ourselves and the excuses we cling to. When we acknowledge the truth—that we are His workmanship created for good works—we can begin to live boldly, without fear or hesitation.
Practical Steps to Live Your Purpose
- **Identify your “becauses”**—and question their validity.
- **Ask “Why?”**—where did that excuse originate? Is it really true?
- **Ask “What do I lose if I continue making excuses?”**—and consider the cost of missing out on God’s best.
- **Share your struggles**—with trusted friends or in small groups. We weren’t meant to do life alone.
- **Take the next step**—whether it’s serving in a ministry, being baptized, forgiving someone, or simply choosing to believe in your God-given worth.
Remember, You Are Not Alone
God’s plan for you is good, and He has equipped you with everything you need to fulfill it. Don’t let fear or excuses hold you back. Instead, embrace your identity as His masterpiece and step into the good works He prepared for you long ago.
Let’s choose today to lay aside our excuses and live fully for Him. Because when we do, we not only honor God—we also experience the joy and purpose He designed us for.
Pray with me:
Now, go forth confidently—God has a purpose for you, and He’s with you every step of the way.
