Embracing Peace This Advent Season

Embracing Peace This Advent Season

The King Has Come

As we step into the beautiful season of Advent, we are reminded of the profound significance of this time. Advent is a season of anticipation, a time when we look back with joy at the first coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and look forward with hope to His second coming. Today, I want to reflect on the theme of peace, a gift that Jesus brought into our world and one that we are called to share with others.

In our worship today, we lit the Advent candle, symbolizing hope, peace, joy, love, and the Christ candle. Each of these themes is a reminder of the realities that Jesus brought with His first coming. As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, we must remember that Jesus came to bring peace—a peace that restores our relationship with God and transforms our lives. [34:45]

The world we live in is often chaotic and filled with strife. Yet, in the midst of this turmoil, Jesus offers us a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). This peace is not just the absence of conflict; it is a deep, abiding assurance that we are loved and accepted by our Creator. It is a peace that allows us to navigate life's challenges with grace and confidence. [48:35]

As we reflect on the words of Jesus in Matthew 24, we are reminded to be ready for His return. He tells us that no one knows the day or the hour of His coming, and so we must live in a state of readiness. But what does it mean to be ready? One key aspect of being prepared for Jesus' second coming is to be a peacemaker. Jesus said, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God" (Matthew 5:9). [51:12]

Being a peacemaker means actively seeking to create harmony in our relationships. It means striving for peace with our spouses, children, friends, coworkers, and neighbors. It is about reflecting the peace we have received from Christ to those around us. This Advent season, I encourage you to ask yourself: Are you a peacemaker? Is peace with God and with others something you are striving for? [53:01]

To be a peacemaker, we must first experience peace with God. If you feel distant from Him, I urge you to take time to pray and ask for His peace to fill your heart. When we connect with God, we can experience a transformation that allows us to extend that peace to others. [53:49]

As we move through this Advent season, let us remember that the King has come. He is here, offering us peace and inviting us to share that peace with the world. May we be people who reflect His light and love, living in anticipation of His return. Let us embrace the call to be peacemakers, ready for the day when He comes again.

As we celebrate this Advent season, let us hold onto the hope and peace that comes from knowing our Savior. The King has come, and He is waiting for you. Don’t live life without Him.
