Living the Good Life: Building on the Solid Rock of Christ

Reflecting on Jesus’ final words in the Sermon on the Mount, I am reminded of how crucial it is for us to examine the foundation of our lives. Jesus emphasizes that the path to true life is narrow and difficult, and that the choices we make—what we build on, who we follow—determine whether we stand firm when storms come.

In my own life, I’ve seen how small leaks—like a tiny dishwasher leak—can expose much bigger issues underneath. That leak in our home led to a complete remodel, revealing that what seemed minor was actually a sign of deeper problems. Similarly, Jesus warns us that the storms of life will come for everyone, and what’s underneath our surface—our true foundation—will be revealed. Are we building on the solid rock of Jesus, or on shifting sand of self-reliance, appearances, or worldly success?

Jesus’ words challenge us to discern between the two roads, two trees, and two houses. The broad road is easy, popular, but leads to destruction. The narrow gate requires surrender and obedience, but leads to life. It’s tempting to follow the crowd or settle for superficial appearances, but Jesus calls us to root ourselves in Him, the only firm foundation that can withstand the storms.

I also want to highlight the importance of authenticity and humility. Sometimes, we hide the leaks in our lives—our doubts, struggles, or sins—out of fear or pride. But Scripture invites us to confess, to share our burdens, and to invite others into our mess ([48:46]). When we do, we not only find healing ourselves but also create a community where others feel safe to do the same. Imagine what our church could be if we truly belonged, believed, and bore fruit together.

As we reflect today, I encourage you to consider: Are you building on the solid rock of Jesus, or are there leaks and cracks that need attention? Are you following the narrow path, or have you drifted onto the broad, easy road? Remember, storms will come, but if our foundation is Jesus, we will stand firm.

During this time of reflection, I invite you to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what you might need to surrender or share. Maybe you need to let someone into your mess, or perhaps you need to come before God and lay down what’s been weighing on your heart. Whatever it is, know that you are not alone. We are called to belong, believe, and bear fruit together.

Let’s take this moment to listen, to respond, and to trust in the firm foundation of Jesus. Because in Him, through surrender and obedience, we find the good life—one that endures the storms and stands the test of time.

Blessings to you all, and may your soul be well as you seek to build on the only true foundation—Jesus Christ.
